The I-94 Road Trip

The I-94 Road Trip

This was the final cross-country adventure during my 2-year tenure in Ann Arbor, Michigan while I earned my Masters in Architecture.  So far, I had traversed the country via I-80, I-90 and this spring would be I-94.

We had the tremendous fortune of our neighbors’ offering their family cabin in Kalispell, Montana, and the trip to Glacier National Park was born.

I’ve mentioned in previous posts about our “Muir Moments”: taking a few minutes to let an experience, a view or a new friend really penetrate the brain/heart/soul.  Before I had even read John Muir’s stories (favorite collection here, no commission from John or Amazon), there was a moment coming into Kalispell and seeing the Continental Divide in Big Sky Country when I wept.  You’ll note I do this from time to time: seeing Yosemite Valley driving out of Wawona Rd tunnel or Grand Canyon at snow-dusted Grandview Point or having a life changing experience on Mount Franklin in Isle Royale National Park.  The photo is comical to me now, so terrible, but I take pictures for me, not for Instagram.

3 days in Glacier National Park and then to Ann Arbor through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!  The site is woefully unpopulated with Michigan adventures so far, but suffice it to say, seeing one of the Big Lakes always feels like coming home.
